Kontum Vietnam - Catholic Orphanage

Hello,

My name is Dennis. This site is created to promote the Catholic Orphanage located in Konum Vietnam. Two orphanages are located there that serve mostly the Motagnard children.

Background

I and several Vietnam veterans provide financial and other support to help the Sisters of Miraclous Medals provide for the children. The orphanage was established in the 1960s when many of us served in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Last year another vet and I visited Vietnam. One of the places was the orphanage in the village of Kontum . The 3 pictures below show some of the 300 plus children who live there in pretty austere conditions. At the time we took contributions from our church (Nativity) to help the sisters who care for the children. On January 2, 2005, Nativity Church will take another collection to assist the needs of the children. It takes about $10 to feed, clothe, care, and educate one child for a month.

Obviously, there are many needs throughout the world to help children like this. Why help help this group? They are the forgotten legacy of the Vietnam war. The children are mostly from the many minority tribes generally called Montagnards (mountain people) who fought with the U.S. troops. Some thirty years later, the conditions are not good there. Water is unsafe to drink (Agent Orange, etc.) and huge amounts of unexploded shells, etc. are still a threat to the population (3 times the tonnage was dropped by planes in Vietnam than WWII - this does not include mortar, artillery, etc). Curious children are often the victims of unexploded ordinance.

If you would like to help the children, you can send your tax deductible contribution directly to Nativity Church and mark it for the January 2, 2005 Vietnam Orphan collection at 5935 Pandora Ave., Cincinnati OH 45213. If you would like to see pictures of the children, visit our website at http://www.angelfire.com/oh5/d_coyne/ and click on Vinh Son Orphanage.

Thanks for your consideration - Please pray for them and all children without families to love and support them.
